WATER - What is it good for???

Well - absolutely EVERYTHING!

We live in a Buy'N'Sell, Toss-Away, Fast-food society!

Bottled water [2] was probably the biggest scam and farce ever introduced to us. And we drank it in, so-to-speak!

Is all Water created equal?

Resounding: NO.

While bottled and tap water a re regulated by our governments, and are run through a series of scrutinous filtration and purification processes - this does not mean they are "good" for us.
Water needs to fit a certain criteria of cleanliness before being allowed on the market, according to Health Canada. [1]
Thus making it no more than - well - wet.

We humans do need to be hydrated, there's no question about that.
There are, however, several contradicting opinions as to how much, how little, what form (is coffee and tea considered water intake) we need to consume water in.

So we are going to go with: "Drink water, drink it often, and especially drink it when you are thirsty (instead of anything else)" mode of theory.

Now - why do we find ourselves avoiding water? I have a theory.

It tastes bad. Really bad. The bottled, tap and filtered-from-the-store varieties are a tasteless, wet, no real nutritional value water that we've been made to believe awesome simply because we have it. [see countries that don't]

Visual Aid:
Remember when you were a kid? And used to go into the mountains and drink from the stream? Remember that cold, crisp, bright, almost leafy taste it had?
Remember how nothing compared and you'd get home and grab a glass of tap water expecting it to be just as refreshing and it was ... well ..... wet ... and nothing more?

There's a reason for that, actually 2 reasons - and tap and bottled water (even if it says SPRING on the outside) don't have them.

  1. Alkalinity
  2. No Chemicals

Hard water doesn't count - sorry.

Alkaline: Our bodies are in a constant battle between alkaline and acid. The human body, ideally, should sit around 7-ish pH.

With all the foods high is salt and sugar, drinks high in salt and sugar, stress, low exercise, lack of sleep a body can dip down into the low acid side of the pH scale. Thus making us susceptible to low energy, more lack of sleep, lethargy and disease!

For Example:[3] The less water one has, the drier it is, forcing our bodies to store more toxins in our fat (instead of being flushed out), and a toxic body is acid. The more water - even better when alkaline - the more flushing occurs!
ei: Cancerous/Melanoma's pH is around 5.6 acidity.[4]

Symptoms of acidosis are [5] :
  • impaired cellular function
  • fatigue
  • weight gain
  • diminished immunity
  • inflammation
  • osteoporosis
  • premature aging
  • muscle loss
  • anxiety and irritability

No Chemicals:

I really shouldn't have to explain why we should not drink the water from our taps, but I will ...

Especially those in largely populated, or rural areas with high run-off seasons. If your bath smells like the local pool - not such a hot idea to drink it?

PROPER Filtering:

I've tried A LOT of filters. And nothing is comparable to the Multi-Level Filter.
They are expensive, but are WORTH IT.Also, it will take you a little while to get used to the strong flavour of your water - yes I said "flavour" and "water": in the same sentence. Here's an example a a great multilayer filtration system for your tap water.
[6]
Stage 1: Granular Activated Coconut Carbon Highly porous coconut carbon offers an astounding 65 acres of purifying surface area. It filters chlorine, herbicides, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals, trihalomethanes (THMs), heavy metals, organic chemicals, odour, taste, colour and particulates. This stage also contains a KDF filter medium that inhibits the growth of bacteria in the filter and neutralizes heavy metals. Magnesium granules improve the Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP).

Stage 2
: Volcanic Mineral Zeolite This stage inhibits bacteria and neutralizes heavy metals including lead, nickel, cadmium and mercury through an ion exchange process. It filters detergents, ammonium, certain radioactive ions, agricultural chemicals and other toxins.

Stage 3: Mineral Stone Infusion Highly porous Maifan mineral stones infuse ionized minerals into the water that aid in oxygenation and alkalization.

Stage 4: pH Mineral Balls Mineral ions encased in diatomaceous earth add calcium, magnesium and other trace minerals to fortify the water and increase the pH.

Stage 5: Energy Balls Constructed from highly compressed and fired earth and mineral oxides,
the energy balls assist with pH balancing and emit beneficial infrared energy into the water.

A Side Note - the question of Minerals, In a nutshell:
Dr. Allen E. Banik with Carlson Wade
"It is believed that mineral waters help furnish elements for body metabolism. But there is scientific proof to suggest that many of these minerals are in an inorganic (dead) form. While they may enter the circulation, they cannot be used in the physiological process of building the human cell. These inorganic minerals only interfere with the delicate and complex biology of the body. They may also overwork the kidneys.
For example, it would be biologically impossible to nourish the body with iron by taking "iron filings" or any other form of inorganic iron. The best way to nourish the body with iron is through fresh and, preferably, raw fruits and vegetables.
With this in mind, we can see that mineral water may give "dead" or "inorganic" minerals to the body which cannot be properly assimilated."
