We have published pictures of our local school gardens before. We now have updated pictures, and some information on th amazing people who have helped the school accomplish these gardens!
Diana Daunheimer from givingfarm.com was one of the people who helped establish wat was planted in the gardens. This year they decided to focus on bee-friendly flowers and plants.
" ... the school garden is dear to my heart for the same reasons you run your site, good food in the tummy and the knowledge and appreciation to grow and understand what good food is."
Since the bee population is so important, and since Diana also owns, raises and teaches about bees, pollination, seeds sharing, our enviroment, she was more than happy to jump into this project. There are 20 beds - one for each class - all growing flowers to vegitables.
" ... this year we focused on planting bee gardens, the little house in the bed closest to the road is a mason bee house, native solitary pollinators.
I did several bee demonstrations (we have an organic apiary) for numerous classes and we focused on planting for pollinators. It was a lot of fun!"
Please visit her website and make some time when you're in Alberta to visit her.
Her farm also hosts seasonal farm days in 2014 where our products, including heritage seeds, honey, eggs, framed art, dried teas and herbs as well as plants and produce in season, will be available.
