How to make a basic white sauce, or a "roux".
This can be as a base to many, many other sauces such as gravy, Alfredo, Garlic butter, Mac N Cheese, even add chocolate or and anything else your imagination can conjure!
You'll need:
- (Stainless) Pot
- 1 tbs Butter
- 1/2 cup Flour
- 2 cups Water, Milk or Cream
- 1 tsp. Salt
- 1. tsp. Pepper
- Heat the sauce pan to med-high heat
- Add butter, salt and pepper and allow to melt
- Once melted, remove from heat and add flour, Stir vigorously with a spoon or whisk until completely incorporated (no lumps)
- Place back onto heat and add liquid slowly while whisking
- Turn down heat to medium
- Continually whisk until mixture comes to a boil and begins to thicken.
- Remove from heat
At this point you may add chocolate, cheese, garlic, Parmesan etc to make what ever sauce you wish! Enjoy!
